Error in the final tax assessments for 2009

about 30% of the tax returns with foreign income are wrong

Error in 30% of the Final Tax Assessments (“årsopgørelser”) for 2009.

If you have an annual tax return with income from abroad, or have moved to Denmark, we strongly recommend that you get a tax advisor to review this.

Our experience is that about 30% of the tax returns with foreign income are wrong. Often it is because tax reporting figures from tax returns are transmitted incorrect into the electronic tax system. It is not always an easy matter to transmit data from tax returns with foreign income, since it requires great knowledge and care. Therefore, it is very easy to make mistakes.

Skat is not entitled to simply changing the figures themselves, unless it is a writing error. This is nonetheless frequently the case.

If Skat makes changes on the tax returns received, the general rules of tax law compliance must be met, which means that Skat must write to the tax payer and make suggestions for change. Only then will it be possible to change the figures in a tax return.

For the person who does not daily work with foreign income, it can be incredibly difficult to understand if the final tax assessment is correct and if not, what is the cause.

The Danish tax system is so complicated that only a much trained eye can judge whether the tax assessment and tax liability are correct. Although figures on the tax assessment as such are identical with the tax return, this does not mean automatically that everything is ok.

If you are not confident about your income and tax liability are calculated correctly, we strongly recommend that you get your tax assessment reviewed by a competent person who has the necessary knowledge to judge whether the tax assessment is correct.

We offer this help. You are therefore free to contact us at info@inwema.dk to make sure that you do not cheat yourself.
